New Utah dad dies suddenly day after son’s birth

The first time Josh Robison held his newborn son in his arms was also the last.

Robison, 24, succumbed to a sudden illness the day after his son’s birth, leaving his wife, Erica to raise their child on her own.

Robison, a student at Brigham Young University, came down with flu-like symptoms shortly after Thanksgiving, according to KSL in Salt Lake City.

An emergency room visit on Dec. 6 led to the discovery of a treatable staph infection that was traced to a valve in his heart a few days later.

Doctors operated on Dec. 9, and on Thursday, Robison was able to witness the birth of his son, Logan.

“He was able to hold him for about ten minutes and was immediately in love. He wanted the name Logan Joshua,” Erica Robison wrote on a donation page started by the couple’s friends.

A few hours later, Josh got a headache, and doctors discovered bleeding in his brain. The cause of the bleeding has not been determined.

“When they took him down to the CAT scan, that’s when he lost consciousness,” his mother, Jodi, told KSL.

He never woke up.

More than 1,000 people have made donations to the single mother since hearing about the tragedy. She said in a Sunday blog post that the support has been “beyond anything I could have asked for.”

“My heart aches and I miss him dearly every moment of the day, but I also know he will be with me and our son every step of our lives and we will return to him again,” she wrote.
