Woman, 70, struck, killed in Henderson gated community

A 71-year-old Henderson woman was killed Monday after she was struck by a truck while attempting to cross a street in a gated neighborhood.

Aiyun Yao, 71, was killed about 5:30 p.m. after being struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Alejandro Gutierrez, 34, as she crossed Via Sarafina Drive at Palatine Terrace Avenue, near Seven Hills Drive.

There were no crosswalk markings at the intersection, Henderson police said.

Yao was taken to a hospital, but died. Police said Gutierrez was not injured and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Speed was not a factor, police said.
