Three officers involved in Saturday shooting identified

The Las Vegas police officers involved in the Saturday shooting of a heavily armed 26-year-old man were identified by authorities Tuesday.

Officers Paul Kunz, 28, Justin Marzec, 29, and Joshua Giese, 28, shot and killed Patrick Heki about 2 a.m. at an apartment complex near Flamingo Road and Mountain Vista Street.

Heki, who police said was possibly suicidal and contemplated “starting a mass shooting,” was carrying two rifles and a handgun when police arrived. He pointed the rifle at officers, police said.

He died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
