Nevada gaming exec appointed to Holocaust Memorial Council

WASHINGTON — Nevada gaming executive John Farahi will be appointed to the governing board of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, according to the White House.

Farahi is chief executive and co-chairman of Monarch Casino & Resort Inc., which owns the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno. He also is a member of the national council of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and founder of the Farahi Jewish Day School in Reno.

The Holocaust Memorial Council consists of 55 members appointed by the president, and five apiece appointed by the House and Senate. It meets twice a year.

Farahi, will be appointed for a five-year term by President Barack Obama at the recommendation of Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev. He is the only Nevadan on the council.
