Shots fired near Rancho and Decatur, 1 wounded

One person was shot near the Rancho Mesa Apartments Monday night, Las Vegas police said.

Police responded to the apartments near Rancho Drive and Decatur Boulevard about 8 p.m. Monday night after receiving reports of gunfire.

Two groups got into an altercation while walking toward the apartments, Lt. Harry Fagel said.

After the groups exchanged words, the argument escalated, Fagel said, and multiple gunshots were fired.

One person was struck in the chest and transported to a local hospital, but the injuries were not considered life threatening, Fagel said.

It was unclear if the shooting was gang related, but gang unit detectives were investigating, according to Fagel.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call the Las Vegas police at 702-828-3111 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at www.crimestoppersofnv.com
