Nevada DMV warns of Web scam
CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles’s chief wants everyone to know you don’t need to pay for basic information about vehicle registrations or driver’s licenses.
DMV Director Troy Dillard on Wednesday said the agency has received a number of calls and emails from people who thought they were renewing their registration on the DMV website, only to find out too late they were on a private website that charged them for basic information.
The private sites offer to help customers through the registration and licensing process for a fee, he said.
Nevada’s official DMV website, found at www.dmvnv.com , provides all that information for free.
Additionally, many common DMV transactions such as registration and license renewals can be done online.
