Man jumps from hospital parking garage after release

A man committed suicide Sunday shortly after being released from a protective custody hold by St. Rose Dominican Hospital, according to officials.

Larry Shaver Jr., 44, of Troy, Ala., was taken into custody by Las Vegas police on a Legal 2000 protective hold and taken to the hospital, according to a law enforcement official.

The official said the hospital released Shaver because he was not threatening to harm himself or others. Shortly after, he jumped from a parking garage.

Henderson police were called about 7 a.m. to the hospital parking garage where they found him dead.

The coroner’s office said that Shaver died of cranial, cerebral and thoracic blunt trauma. They have ruled his death a suicide.

The investigation remains open pending a blood test.
