Boy calls for help after plane crashes near Kingman; mother dies

A 13-year-old boy used a cellphone to call for help after the plane he and his parents were aboard crashed Thursday in south Mohave County, Ariz.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Trish Carter said search and rescue personnel responded to the 11:30 a.m. call and found the fixed-wing aircraft about 50 miles southeast of Kingman and about 11 miles southeast of U.S. Highway 93.

Carter said the mother was dead. The boy was flown to a Phoenix hospital, and his father was flown to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The boy and the father’s conditions were unknown.

Carter said the family was flying from Sedona back home to Bakersfield, Calif.
