Water Cooler: Paradise City Road, ‘Family Circus,’ Scotty Scorpion

Here are a few things in news, sports, entertainment and pop culture that caught our eye last week.

■ Paradise Road will be called Paradise City Road during Guns N' Roses' residency at the Hard Rock Hotel. Nominations are now open for which local road should be renamed for AC/DC's "Highway to Hell."

■ Paradise Valley, Ariz., plans to honor late resident Bil Keane, creator of the "Family Circus," by erecting a sculpture featuring the comic strip's characters. But you'll have to take an absurdly circuitous walk to find it.

■ Nevada State College names its scorpion mascot "Scotty." The name's not scary, but scorpions are definitely icky enough to inspire fear in opponents.
