HIKES:

Oak Creek Canyon/Potato Knoll Evening Geology and Nature Hike: On Monday, join a geologist on a moderate hike in Oak Creek Canyon to Potato Knoll, while enjoying the late evening rays and breezes. Potato Knoll is a slump block that broke off from the Wilson Cliffs thousands of years ago. They will discuss the geology and plants and animals encountered in the hike and have a field lunch in the shade on the knoll. This hike does not climb Potato Knoll. Moderate, 3 miles. Ages 10+. Limited space. Call 515-5367.

Corn Creek Spring Walk: On Saturday, plan to go on an easy, ½-mile trek to see where Corn Creek Spring rises to the surface at a fault and feeds three ponds at this headquarters of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. It is a major bird-watching area and is prime habitat for aquatic plants and animals. . Good for all ages. Limited space. Call 515-5367.

OTHER PROGRAMS:

RRC Animals: On Tuesday, view some of the arachnids, reptiles, birds and mammals found in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Venomous animals also will be discussed. Living and preserved specimens will be on display and discussion and questions are encouraged. Good for all ages. Visit Dr. Bob for his table-top presentation between 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Visitor Center . No sign-ups necessary.

Story Time with Auntie Anne: On Saturday, come visit Auntie Anne for a story time on the first and third Saturday of the month at Red Rock Canyon. Open to all ages that enjoy stories. Story time may be inside or outside, so dress for the weather. Stories will be read at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. First come, first served. Registration is not required for this program, but it is recommended .

Archaeo-Nevada Society: The society and the Bureau of Land Management seek volunteers to help with Red Rock Canyon conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
