Denver company plans acquisition of CoreLink Data Centers in Las Vegas

Denver-based ViaWest on Monday announced the acquisition of CoreLink Data Center at 304 E. Carson Ave., doubling ViaWest's total data capacity in downtown Las Vegas.

Financial terms and details of the acquisition were not released, including how many employees are affected.

CoreLink's 13,300-square-foot Las Vegas data center provides customers with backup power and five layers of security, including key-card access, 24-hour security monitoring and alarms tied into the fire and police departments.

Customers include Cox Communications, CenturyLink, TW Telecom, XO Communications and Cogent Communications.

Jay Snider, CEO of Chicago-based CoreLink, said he's confident the level of customer focus will be maintained during and after the transition.

ViaWest, a national provider of cloud computing and information techology services, occupies a former bank location in downtown Las Vegas, where the data center sits inside of a vault that's seismically certified with 18-inch-thick walls.

The company signed a lease in May to develop a separate 110,000-square-foot data facility in North Las Vegas, though no specific location has been identified.

It will be one of the greenest data centers in the United States, incorporating the latest in cooling technology designed for the Las Vegas climate, the company said.

The site will be engineered with multiple medium-voltage utility feeders to ensure power diversity and reliability. Upon completion of the facility in first quarter 2013, ViaWest will offer 450,000 square feet of raised-floor data center space in Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Utah.

"The addition of these assets expands our presence in the Las Vegas market and enhances our base of established customers," Roy Dimoff, chairman and CEO of ViaWest, said in a statement. "Simply, this investment supports our objective of being a premier technology infrastructure provider in the region."
