Design students transform building materials into fashion

The first ARTchitecture event by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers/International Interior Design Association and the School of Architecture will be presented April 26 at Las Vegas Design Center.

The event features a collection of fashion, photography and art-centric designs created by interior design, landscape and architecture students at UNLV .

All of the showcased designs will be displayed on mannequins; they are inspired by Las Vegas architecture and constructed from design surface materials such as tile, wallpaper and textiles, which were donated by local vendors. The designs will be auctioned at the conclusion of the event, with all proceeds benefiting a scholarship fund for incoming Las Vegas high school students attending UNLV's School of Architecture. A silent auction featuring home furnishings pieces, restaurant packages and other items also will benefit the fund.

Each design will be on display through Monday at Las Vegas Design Center and Tivoli Village. A storyboard explaining the design inspiration is part of each display.

ARTchitecture is free and open to the public. It will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the atrium of Building A at the design center on the World Market Center campus, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway. For additional information and to RSVP, visit lvdesigncenter.com/events.
