Cox business customers report phone service problems

An undetermined number of Cox Communications business customers reported disruptions in their digital-phone service Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday's outage was the result of a software issue, and was resolved by about 4 p.m., spokesman Juergen Barbusca said.

Wednesday's disruption occurred at around 5 p.m. and lasted about 25 minutes before service was fully restored, Barbusca said. The company hadn't pinpointed a cause of the second outage by late Wednesday, he said.

The service issues did not affect residential customers, but it did affect "a good number" of Cox's business customers, Barbusca said. Cox is a private company and doesn't disclose its customer numbers.

Business clients were able to call other Cox business customers during the outage, but they couldn't make local or long-distance calls to non-Cox phone users.
