Police report first night of Electric Daisy Carnival quiet

The first night of Electric Daisy Carnival 2012 in Las Vegas was a relatively quiet one for police.

Las Vegas police reported 30 felony arrests, one misdemeanor arrest and eight citations between 6 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday.

Of the 30 felonies, 29 arrests were related to drugs. The other was a "strong-arm" robbery, police said.

Last year, the first night of the festival saw 20 arrests, with 14 being felonies. But although this year's numbers were slightly increased, the number of ravers also increased substantially.

In its second Vegas incarnation the opening night drew 115,000 fans, up from an estimated 75,000 on the first night last year.

There were 135 medical calls this year, down from 143 last year. Six people were hospitalized.

There were 34 ejections.

The second day will begin tonight 7 p.m. at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In order to avoid heavy highway delays, the festival ends each morning at 5 a.m. this year instead of 6 a.m.
