Retired casino executive, wife donate $5 million to UNR

RENO -- Retired casino executive Phil Satre and his wife, Jennifer, are donating $5 million to the University of Nevada, Reno.

Under the gift announced Tuesday, $3 million will go to the University of Nevada School of Medicine. UNR's College of Education will receive $1.6 million and $400,000 will go to Wolf Pack athletics.

University officials note the Satres are longtime champions of higher education. Previous gifts have benefited the School of Arts and the College of Business.

Jennifer Satre taught at a Reno elementary school and received her master's degree in education from UNR.

Phil Satre is a former executive at Harrah's Entertainment Inc. and retired as chairman and CEO in 2005. He currently serves as chairman of the board for both International Game Technology and NV Energy.
