Mesquite branch of county clerk’s office to close

Clark County Clerk Diana Alba is closing the Mesquite branch of the clerk's office after Jan. 13 because of a lack of customers.

The position will be transferred to the main office in downtown Las Vegas . Residents of the Mesquite and Moapa Valley area still will be able to submit fictitious firm names and notary bonds by mail and will be able to submit passport applications at the Mesquite post office. But they will have to leave that area to get a marriage license.

The clerk's office issues more than 90,000 marriage licenses, and processes more than 18,000 fictitious business names and about 5,000 notary bonds annually.

Alba also is changing the hours for the Laughlin office, which will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, except legal holidays, starting Jan. 14.

The marriage bureau in Las Vegas is open 8 a.m. to midnight 365 days a year.
