More federal cases filed against independent ATM operators

Two more federal cases have been filed against independent ATM operators that allegedly did not have fee disclosure signs on the outside of the machines.

Both plaintiffs, the lead parties in what are being pushed as class actions, were women from Collin County, Texas, northeast of Dallas. One was charged $3.45 for using the ATM at Madam Tussaud's on the Strip on July 6, while the other paid $2.99 at a Speedee Mart on 5110 Camino al Norte.

Federal regulations require that all ATMs post the fees charged to people not in a particular bank's network twice, once on or near the machine and once on the screen during withdrawals. Businesses can face penalties as high as $500,000 for not complying.
