Man dies in single-vehicle crash in Summerlin

A 52-year-old man died after his minivan struck the entrance gate to the Desert Bloom residential community on Alta Drive near Mariola Street just after 7 a.m. Sunday.

The 1997 Ford Windstar was traveling south on Mariola when it struck the entrance gate, then traveled north through the entrance, striking the call box, Las Vegas police said. It then entered Alta, struck a curb and rolled over.

The driver, who wasn't immediately identified, was transported to Summerlin Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

It was the 52nd traffic-related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction in 2011.
