Las Vegas auto repair owner ordered to pay fines

CARSON CITY -- The owner of several Las Vegas auto repair shops has been ordered to pay restitution and civil fines to resolve consumer complaints following an investigation by the attorney general's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto on Thursday said Shafik Hirji, owner of several Purrfect Auto Services franchises, was ordered by Clark County District Judge Mark Denton to pay more than $118,000 in restitution and $100,000 in civil fines for violating deceptive trade practice laws.

Hirji also must pay $75,000 in attorneys' fees and is banned from operating an auto repair business unless he can show it is operating in accordance with local and state laws.
