HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, a moderately strenuous 11-mile hike with an 1,000-foot elevation gain at the Grand Circle. On Thursday, a moderate 3-mile full moon hike with some scrambling at Keystone Thrust. On Saturday, a moderate 3- to 4-mile hike at Oak Creek (515-5367).

Around The Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

Valley of Fire: On Feb. 20 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., hike with a ranger at the Rainbow Vista Trailhead down to the Fire Canyon Overlook (397-2088).

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Saturday, an art class for those 4 and older. No experience necessary and all supplies included. On Feb. 20, a program for children 3-8 years old on birds (515-5367).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.

Valley of Fire: On Saturday, a program about Mouse, the outlaw who eluded capture by hiding out in the area. Other topics include the Anasazi petroglyphs that predate Mouse, sandstone characteristics and plant identification. Program will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the visitor center (397-2088).
