Officer shoots at man suspected of beating girlfriend

A Las Vegas police officer on Tuesday shot at a man suspected of beating his girlfriend.

Police initially said the suspect was "grazed" in the shooting, but later said the bullet did not strike the suspect.

Lt. George Castro said the incident happened at 11:22 a.m. at 908 Linn Lane, near Bonanza Road and Christy Lane in the east valley. Police were called to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a domestic dispute involving a knife.

Castro said the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Jeff Burguin, is alleged to have been attacking his girlfriend outside the home when another woman approached the pair. The suspect struck the other woman, Castro said, and then chased his girlfriend into the house.

An officer approached the open door of the house and saw the suspect holding his hand behind his back, Castro said.

"He was holding it as if to conceal something," he said.

The suspect then raised his arm quickly at the officer, who fired one shot, Castro said.

It was unclear whether the suspect had a weapon .

The suspect was arrested for domestic violence and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Both assault victims were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The name of the officer who fired the weapon will be released 48 hours after the incident, per department policy.
