HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, 2½-mile hike with some scrambling at Sandstone Quarry. On Tuesday, an 8-mile strenuous hike with some scrambling at Calico Hills Loop. On Wednesday, a strenuous, 4-mile hike at Red Cap. On Thursday, a moderate, 3-mile hike with some scrambling at Keystone Thrust. On Friday, a moderately easy 3-mile hike at Lone Grapevine Spring. On Saturday, a moderate, 3-mile hike at First Creek. Also Saturday, a 3-mile, strenuous hike with some scrambling at Calico Hills and Tanks (515-5367).

Valley of Fire: An easy, ¾-mile hike at 1 p.m. Saturday to view petroglyphs at Mouse's Tank Trailhead (397-2088).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, an art class for those 15 and over. No experience is necessary and all supplies are included. On Friday, a canyon clean-up is scheduled. On Saturday, a junior naturalists program for those 2-8 years old on what animals do to get ready for the winter. Also Saturday, Doc Lorens will give information on Veterans Affairs. Seating is limited, so RSVP. On Nov. 14, a program for 2-8 year olds on bugs (515-5367).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
