‘Housewives’ star: Divorce report false
Eva Longoria Parker, star of "Desperate Housewives," on Tuesday slammed divorce rumors as "100 percent false."
Longoria Parker, the lead partner in the CityCenter restaurant Beso and nightclub Eve , made the denial through her rep, taking issue with the report by celebrity website TMZ.com.
TMZ.com initially reported that her husband, Tony Parker of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, had filed divorce papers in Bexar County, Texas. The report was later removed from the website and replaced by the denial. The couple were married three years ago at a French castle.
Longoria Parker raised eyebrows last Thursday when she skipped the red carpet as honorary chair of the Nevada Cancer Institute's Rock for the Cure at Aria.
Red-carpet reporters were told she would pose for photos but not take questions.
A NEW RULE
After a close call on Monday, I have a new rule: Be more attentive in parking lots and lose the cell phone.
While making a quick stop at the Boulevard Mall about 3:30 p.m., I got tied up for 15 minutes with a flurry of phone calls and text messages about BMX legend TJ Lavin.
I was still in the car, finishing my last text message, when I heard squealing tires behind me, so loud and so close that I cringed, anticipating a crash.
As I turned to my right, I realized a young man was bent down, looking into the passenger door window.
Then I saw the light green pickup flashing by, still loudly burning rubber.
Instantly the young man turned away from my door, which was unlocked, and started sprinting after the truck.
What caught my attention was how he was running: his right hand was in his pocket, dearly holding on to something as he sprinted toward the truck, which was now turning north onto Maryland Parkway.
The slightly built youth, possibly a teen, never looked back and never stopped.
I'll likely never know for certain why the driver bailed on his friend. Maybe he lost his nerve or was spooked by the presence of would-be witnesses.
It's possible the young man at my door hesitated when he saw my two little-but-loud Yorkies, Rumor and Scandal, in the passenger seat.
If so, they may have been lifesavers because I'm pretty sure the guy wasn't there to discuss what kind of mileage my Prius gets.
The lesson learned: Sitting in one's car in a parking lot, reading e-mail or talking on a telephone, makes someone an inviting target for bad guys.
In these tough times and with the holiday season approaching, be aware of that, folks.
I was lucky.
