LV police investigate shooting that left one dead, one injured

One man was killed and another hurt in a shooting in the central valley Monday night, Las Vegas police said.

Homicide Sgt. Russ Shoemaker said police were called to the 1100 block of Freeman Avenue, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue, about 10:22 p.m.

Two men were sitting in a side yard at the home when a third man approached and fired several times, striking both men and peppering a nearby home and a vehicle with bullet holes, Shoemaker said.

One of the victims, identified as a 24 year-old man who lived in the home, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, age 25, was transported to University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg, Shoemaker said. Police are withholding identification of the men pending notification of relatives.

Shoemaker said a clear motive had not been determined Tuesday morning.

"It's a work in progress," he said.
