Vigil set to celebrate ruling on Arizona immigration law

Immigrant rights activists will have a prayer vigil tonight in support of comprehensive immigration reform.

The vigil, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Hartke Park, 1900 E. Tonopah Ave. at McDaniel Street in North Las Vegas, also was originally intended to protest Arizona's controversial new immigration law, which is set to take effect today.

A federal judge on Wednesday blocked the most controversial elements of the new law.

"We will now be giving thanks for those developments," said Michael Flores, an immigration reform activist who helped organize the event.

About 100 people are expected to attend the vigil, he said.
