Four men hospitalized when stolen vehicle crashes in Las Vegas

Four suspects in a stolen vehicle were injured late Saturday after Las Vegas police tried to stop the vehicle in the area of Washington Avenue and Rancho Drive.

Lt. Ted Snodgrass said one of the suspects was injured when the sport utility vehicle flipped upside down while turning onto D Street, and the other three were injured when they were struck by vehicles while trying to flee on foot across Interstate 15.

Snodgrass said all four men were taken to a hospital for treatment, but none suffered life-threatening injuries.

The police spokesman said a patrol officer first spotted the stolen vehicle before 10 p.m. near Rancho Drive and U.S. Highway 95, then requested backup before trying to stop the vehicle.

Snodgrass said the stolen vehicle accelerated when police tried to stop it, so those officers ended their pursuit. A police helicopter then began following the vehicle, he said.

The vehicle flipped as it turned onto
D Street, then skidded upside down toward Interstate 15, the spokesman said. He said one other vehicle received minor damage.

Snodgrass said all four suspects tried to flee the scene, but one was arrested nearby.

He said the other three ran up onto the freeway, where two were struck in the southbound lanes and another was struck in the northbound lanes.

The incident caused the temporary closure of Interstate 15's southbound lanes, Snodgrass said.

He said police arrested all four suspects, and one remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon. He said the investigation was continuing, but the driver would face felony charges of evading a police officer and possession of a stolen vehicle.
