Baby girl dies after being run over

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A 6-week-old girl died Tuesday after being run over in a driveway in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Lake Havasu City Police Department Sgt. Joe Harrold said officers responded at 11:26 p.m. Monday to a home on Newport Drive. He said that a 24-year-old Lake Havasu City woman had parked her 2004 Ford pickup on an inclined driveway and that the vehicle rolled backward as she was unloading items from the passenger side.

Both mother and daughter were caught by the vehicle and dragged down the driveway, Harrold said. He said the infant was crushed and suffered blunt force trauma when run over by the right front tire.

The girl, whose name was withheld, was declared dead at Havasu Regional Medical Center about 90 minutes after the accident. The mother suffered injuries to her hands and feet.

Police said that they do not suspect alcohol involvement and that the investigation was continuing.
