Slower trucks get first chance to make field for LVMS event
September 23, 2010 - 11:00 pm
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will use a new qualifying procedure in the Smith's 350k Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The order in which trucks will qualify will be based on times recorded during practice sessions. The truck times will be inverted, allowing the slowest truck in practice to be the first out in qualifying, with the fastest truck going out last for a chance to make the 36-truck field.
The system will be used in the series' final six races of the season. Previously, the qualifying order was determined by a drawing.
Qualifying begins at 3:15 p.m.
A good qualifying spot has paid off in previous Las Vegas truck series races. In nine of 13 races here, the winner started in one of the top three positions.
