Acid spill closes northbound U.S. 95 near Eastern Avenue

A truck hauling sulfuric acid spilled the chemical Wednesday on northbound U.S. Highway 95 near Eastern Avenue, shutting down the highway in both directions for hours, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Joseph Fackrell said the acid spill stretched over 100 feet. The truck was hauling 55 gallons of the chemical.

The incident happened about 4:30 p.m., Fackrell said, and the cleanup would take a couple of hours. Police don't know what caused the chemical to spill.

The highway was later closed again after what might have been a road rage incident, the trooper said. One person was hospitalized after the incident, Fackrell said.
