Ombudsman offers training in HOA basics

The ombudsman's office is offering programs to help residents and directors understand their rights and responsibilities under Nevada law.

The ombudsman for owners in Common-Interest Communities and Condominium Hotels invites all association residents to attend any of its upcoming educational outreach classes. A full list is online at red.state.nv.us/CIC/Calendars.

The first class is homeowners association basics for board members and residents and will explain the basic laws pertaining to HOAs and the role of a fiduciary. The class will also include a review of methods of dispute resolution and general information about services of the office of the ombudsman.

The class is scheduled for Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Grant Sawyer Building, 555 E. Washington Ave., Fourth Floor, Room 4412. Seating is limited and attendees are encouraged to register in advance. There is no charge to attend.

CALV to hold seminars about commercial real estate

The Commercial Alliance Las Vegas is hosting its fifth annual Commercial Alliance Symposium Oct. 22 at the Gold Coast Hotel Casino for commercial real estate professionals in Nevada and neighboring states.

National real estate instructor Dr. Mark Dotzour will be presenting an accredited class on global and national economic trends and the outlook for the commercial real estate industry. Dotzour is the chief economist and director of research for the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

In addition to earning continuing education credits by attending morning and afternoon classes, participants can also attend a luncheon presentation on the Southern Nevada economy and commercial real estate industry by John Restrepo, longtime local market analyst, economist and principal of the Restrepo Consulting Group in Las Vegas.

The event is open to the public. Register in advance or at the event. Registration fees range from $25 for lunch to $89 for the entire day for those who register by Oct. 15.
