Carolyn Goodman honored at Boys Town benefit
Carolyn Goodman received the 2010 Hope Award during Boys Town Nevada's sixth annual Journey of Hope benefit May 20 at Red Rock Resort's Cherry Nightclub. Goodman was recognized for her vision, commitment and dedication to improving life in Southern Nevada through education.
Boys Town Nevada board members James Houssels, chair; Kevin Buckley, chair elect; Hilary Westrom, secretary; Norm Jenkins, previous chair; and Thomas Waite, executive director, greeted attendees.
Guests including Patsy and Robert Britton, Winnie Schulman, Dan Tuntland, Dave Courvoisier, Carolyn Sparks, Nancy and Kel Houssels, Robert Graham, Vanessa Houssels, John Ritter, the Rev. Joseph Romero, Barbara Buckley, Wendy and Richard Plaster, Brian Plaster, Sharon Jenkins, Tanja and Brad Brennan, Sara Lee Kroll, Beth Barbre, Sandy White, Lara and Christian Kolberg, and Mayor Oscar Goodman gathered around the club's private pool where guitarist Christian Kelly entertained for the cocktail reception.
The Boys Town Kids entertained by singing "Seize the Day."
Passport Down Under: Bishop Gorman High School stepped up its 15th annual wine tasting benefit this year by choosing a travel theme focusing on Australia.
Guests including Sharon and Mike Nolan, Denise and Tim Cashman, Sandy and Bob Adams, Nancy and Bob Joslin, Patti and Allen Puliz, Teri Rowen, Patti Berry, Ann and Chris Sullivan, Rose McKinney James, Charlotte and Wally Besuden, Linda and Mark McKinley, and Monica and Dan Futryk joined Gorman President John Kilduff and Bishop Joseph A. Pepe Friday for a delightful evening poolside at the M Resort.
Angela Munji '10 and The Rocks provided musical entertainment, followed by a special performance by Australian singers Human Nature.
Sally Bernard from Down Under served as emcee. There was a silent auction and selected wines and beers from Wirtz Beverage Nevada featuring the specialty drinks Ginger Mick and Sassy Sheila.
Among the 700 guests were Nicole and Chris Moeslacher, Kati and Brendan Keating, Mikey and James Bilbray, Erin and Noah Kohn, Pat and Robert Mulroy, Leslie and Todd Shaffer, Michele Shafe, Melissa and Matt Cook, Dennis Lam, Joe Roberto, Rene and John O'Reilly, Sandee and Jelindo Tiberti, and Kenny Rodriguez.
High bid for the Slip Away to Sydney package was submitted by Amy and Roger Tabor.
All proceeds benefited Gorman's Tuition Assistance.
