Partying in Vegas ‘film research’

There's a new Vegas movie in theaters today. In "Get Him to the Greek," Jonah Hill portrays a music company lackey, escorting a rock star (Russell Brand) from London to Vegas to L.A.

While filming at Planet Hollywood, Hill played blackjack in between takes.

But before filming began, he partied with co-star Sean "Diddy" Combs for "research."

"I started the weekend with three nights in Vegas with Diddy -- partying -- so that'll get you a little tired," he said, still looking pretty beat, I have to say.

"It was full throttle."

I asked Hill for a minute-by-minute account. He declined, noting correctly it would take him 72 hours.

Hill talks at length with film critic Carol Cling in today's Neon section.

(Speaking of movies, the Las Vegas International Film Festival is today-Sunday in the Hilton and Shimmer theaters at the Las Vegas Hilton, with parties at the Artisan and Simon at Palms Place. Check LVFilmFest.com.)

RIDING FOR A CAUSE

UFC fighters Forrest Griffin, Tyson Griffin (unrelated) and Gray Maynard will be among 700 or more bikers at a poker run for charity on Sunday.

They start at 10 a.m. at Red Rock Harley-Davidson (2260 S. Rainbow Blvd.), then rumble to Arlen Ness, Pioneer Saloon, Hooters restaurant, the Leather Headquarters and The Orleans.

The eighth annual event raises money for Caring Place, which serves certain free therapies to "those touched by cancer," as the charity puts it. Riders pay $15-$25. For more, check out HRMCLV.com.

PRE-SIGHTING NO. 1

If you're a Brit or Aussie, you might know this guy, singer Daniel Merriweather. He walks the red carpet at 10 p.m. Saturday at Lavo.

PRE-SIGHTING NO. 2

The Strip will be bedazzled with blingy parties this weekend thanks to a jewelry trade show called JCK Las Vegas that sparkles today-Monday at the Sands Expo & Convention Center.

There are JCK parties tonight at Mandalay Bay Beach, and Saturday at The Venetian's Tao Beach. For more, check out JckLasVegasShow.com.

I still can't wrap my head around the JCK party on Sunday at Palazzo's club Lavo: Troubled-past singer Macy Gray will promote a new jewelry line called Tres Glam with the socialites who inspired it -- Brittny (the daughter) and Lisa (the mother) Gastineau. They walk the red carpet at 10 p.m., if they're all on schedule.

Macy Gray, you're about to get socialited!
