Edgewater, Colorado Belle to hold chili cookoff
The 15th annual Red Hot on the River Chili Cookoff, held outdoors on the riverwalk between Colorado Belle and Edgewater, is set for Saturday, March 20. The event features $5,000 in prize money to competitors in four categories, plus free chili tasting, free live entertainment and a day of great fun for both the competitors and the public.
Entries for the event are now being taken. Cooks interested in registering in the competition may call 298-2453, ext. 3758, or e-mail info@cb-ew.com to request an entry form. Deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Friday.
Prizes will be awarded for Best Chili, Best Booth, Best Salsa and People's Choice in each category. Entry fee in the chili competition is $20 and $10 for the salsa competition. Combined entry in both categories is $25.
Booth decoration will begin at 10 a.m. March 20. Cooking will begin at 1 p.m. Judge sampling begins at 4 p.m.
Ballots for People's Choice awards will be distributed at 5:30 p.m. and public sampling (while supplies last) will begin at 5:30 p.m. Cookoff winners will be announced on the riverwalk stage at 7:30 p.m.
Free live classic rock entertainment will be performed during the event beginning at 4 p.m.
Next weekend, the Edgewater and Colorado Belle will host the Irish Days Festivial with Irish cuisine, beer, free live entertainment, fun and games on the riverwalk. Special room packages are available for a two-night stay Friday and Saturday.
