HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a hike in the Fossil Ridge area. On Tuesday, a strenuous, six- to -seven mile hike with some scrambling at Ash Canyon. On Wednesday, a two-and-a-half-mile moderate hike around the base of Calico Hills. On Friday, an easy, half-mile hike at Corn Creek Spring. Also Friday, a five-mile, moderately strenuous hike at La Madre Spring. On Saturday, a moderate, two-and-a-half-mile hike at Fossil Ridge (515-5367).
Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's Web site: www.aroundthebendfriends.com
OTHER PROGRAMS
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, an ongoing talk from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the geology, plants and wildlife at Red Rock Canyon. On Tuesday, an art class for those 15 and older. No experience necessary and all supplies are included. Also Tuesday, a program ongoing from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the nocturnal world of owls. On Friday, a class for 2-6 year olds about the desert tortoise. On Saturday, a program for 2-8 year olds about fall in Red Rock Canyon. On Saturday, a program from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the geology of Red Rock. Also Saturday, a 20-minute program ongoing from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on bats (515-5367).
