HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, meet at the Lower Lee Meadows at 10 a.m. for a micro hike, which is meant to help kids become more acquainted with the details of nature. On Wednesday, meet at the Robber's Roost Trailhead at 10 a.m. to take a short walk. Also on Wednesday, there will be an easy 1/2-mile evening walk at Red Rock. On Friday, there will be a four mile out-and-back strenuous hike, trekking up about 1,500 feet on a slope. On Saturday, there will be a moderate four-mile hike to Oak Creek Canyon and Potato Knoll. There will be an easy one-mile Wildlife Walk About on Saturday at Red Rock Canyon. Also on Saturday, there will be an easy one-mile early evening walk. Another Saturday outing will be a seven-mile hike through the Bristlecone Pines at the top of Lee Canyon. Meet at the Upper Bristlecone Trailhead at 10 a.m. (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's Web site: www. aroundthebendfriends.com

BIKES

Red Rock Canyon: There will be an introductory mountain bike ride July 19 starting from the late night parking lot. This is a six-mile single-track beginner to intermediate ride. Helmets are required (515-5367).

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Wednesday, a story will be read to 3-5 year olds about the plants and animals of the Mojave Desert. Afterward, children will be given the chance to discuss and draw a picture about what they have learned. On Friday, Flying High with the Birds is an activity at Red Rock Canyon for 5-10 year olds. Children will learn facts about the birds of Red Rock Canyon and participate in an activity. On Saturday is an activity for 2-6 year olds. This is a program about predator-prey relations in the Mojave Desert. Kids will go for a short hike, hear a story and do a craft (515-5367).
