Mother held on charge of murder

An 18-year-old Nye County woman accused by authorities of being responsible for her 2-month-old daughter's death has been charged with murder, officials at the Nye County sheriff's office said Thursday.

Parents Bianca Razo-Pina and Efren Chavez, 24, were arrested Tuesday on child neglect charges. Both remained jailed at the Nye County Detention Center as of Thursday afternoon. Razo-Pina is being held without bail on the murder charge.

Razo-Pina and Chavez took their daughter to Desert View Regional Medical Center in Pahrump while she was in full cardiac arrest Monday, the sheriff's office said. She was flown to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas, where she died Wednesday.

A police investigation found the baby suffered extensive brain injuries consistent with trauma to the head. The child had bruises all over her body, according to the sheriff's office.

Detective David Boruchowitz said that because the case is ongoing, he could not elaborate on how the baby was injured.
