Las Vegas tops Omaha in 11 innings

After stranding 10 runners in the first 10 innings, the 51s strung together four consecutive singles in the 11th and defeated the Omaha Royals 2-0 Thursday in a Pacific Coast League game in Omaha, Neb.

Las Vegas' lack of timely hitting earlier in the game wasted a strong start by Fabian Castro, who scattered four hits in eight innings with four strikeouts and three walks.

The 51s (56-57) loaded the bases with one out in the third and eighth innings and with two outs in the ninth.

They finally broke through with one-out singles by Angel Sanchez, Aaron Mathews, Howie Clark and Randy Ruiz off Carlos Rosa (1-8) in the 11th.

Dirk Hayhurst (4-4) picked up the victory by getting the last out in the 10th. Bubbie Buzachero worked a perfect inning for his sixth save.

Mathews had four of Las Vegas' 14 hits, Clark added three, and Ruiz and Sanchez had two apiece.

The Royals dropped to 46-65.
