Woman faces murder charge in death of 2-month-old daughter

An 18-year-old Nye County woman accused by authorities of being responsible for her 2-month-old daughter’s death has been charged with murder, the Nye County sheriff’s office said Thursday.

Parents Bianca Razo-Pina and Efren Chavez, 24, were arrested Tuesday on child neglect charges. Both remained incarcerated at the Nye County Detention Center as of Thursday afternoon. Razo-Pina is being held without bail on the murder charge.

Razo-Pina and Chavez took their daughter to Desert View Regional Medical Center in Pahrump while she was in full cardiac arrest Monday, the sheriff’s office said. She was then flown to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas where she died Wednesday.

A police investigation found the baby suffered extensive brain injuries consistent with trauma to the head. The child also had bruises all over her body, the sheriff’s office said.

Detective David Boruchowitz said because the case is ongoing, he couldn’t elaborate on how the baby was injured.
