HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: Monday, a moderate four-mile hike at Mount Charleston that is almost entirely downhill. On Wednesday, take in the view of Kyle Canyon and beyond on this three-mile hike through an aspen forest to the top of Cathedral Rock. On Friday, take the first half of the forested Upper Bristlecone Trail and head up a small portion of the Bonanza Trail. This is a five-mile out and back trail. On Saturday, easy one-mile hike (515-5467).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's Web site: www.aroundthebendfriends.com

Red Rock Canyon: On Friday, an interactive program for 5- to 10-year-olds about the geology of Red Rock. Friday and Saturday, a 20-minute program conducted twice an hour to learn about bats. Come out to Red Rock Canyon with your 5- to 10-year-olds for a fun and interactive program about the geology of Red Rock Canyon. Children will learn all about the history of how Red Rock Canyon was formed and so much more. Friday - Saturday - Bats in Our Belfry: Learn about the mammal man as tried to emulate. This is a 20-minute program conducted twice an hour for a total of six programs. On Saturday, a beginner art class for those ages 5 and up. Children will work with acrylic paints All supplies are included. (515-5467).
