Details emerge in North Las Vegas shooting

North Las Vegas police said today that the officer who shot and killed a person Friday night was a 33-year-old who has been with the department for 16 months.

The officer, whose name was not released, made contact with at least one male subject near Ann Road and Revere Street about 7:20 p.m.

The incident led to a physical altercation, and one of the male subjects, whose name was not released, brandished a handgun, and the officer shot and killed the suspect.

The suspect, described as between his midteens to his mid-20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer has been placed on routine paid administrative leave.

More information about the incident was unavailable.

The shooting was the first officer-involved shooting for the department since 2006.
