Three Las Vegans killed in Arizona crash

KINGMAN, Ariz. — Three young family members from Las Vegas were killed when two vehicles collided and rolled over on U.S. Highway 93 between Hoover Dam and Phoenix on Sunday afternoon.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the dead were among a group of seven people returning to Las Vegas when the accident occurred at 3:37 p.m. about 20 miles south of Wikieup.

The dead were identified as Miguel Rodriguez, 16, his brother Josue Rodriguez, 8, and their sister-in-law Leslie S. Rodriguez, 16.

They were passengers in a 2003 Ford Explorer that was traveling northbound in the left lane when it went out of control.

The vehicle struck a northbound 2008 Toyota Scion in the right lane, public safety officer Robert Bailey said.

Bailey said the driver of the Ford, Leticia Ovando-Deterraza, 37, and passengers Rene Rodriguez, 19, Aliza Deterraza, 4, and 3-month-old Lizet Yareli-Rodriguez were released after treatment at hospitals in Kingman and Phoenix.

The driver of the Toyota, Luigi Sziklay, 56, and passenger Patricia Sziklay, 53, of Scottsdale were hospitalized in Phoenix.

Bailey said the accident might have been caused by a tire blowout.
