Book signing by Book Nook contributor
Calling all Book Nookers!
Geoff Schumacher, one of our own Book Nook contributors, will sign copies of his latest book, “Howard Hughes: Power, Paranoia & Palace Intrigue,” from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Cheesecake & Crime Mystery Book Shop, 10545 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 100.
The book, published by Stephens Press, focuses on the reclusive billionaire’s brief Las Vegas residency, from 1966-70, when drug addiction, bizarre behavior and a casino buying spree dominated his days. Despite Hughes’ physical and mental decline, he helped to transform the Las Vegas casino industry. Schumacher examines the tumultuous aftermath of the Hughes era in Las Vegas and expands our understanding of the enigmatic aviator and industrialist.
Schumacher is an author, columnist, speaker and newspaper executive in Las Vegas. He also is the author of “Sun, Sin & Suburbia: An Essential History of Modern Las Vegas,” published in October 2004. Schumacher was a reporter, editorial writer and city editor for the Las Vegas Sun for 10 years and editor of Las Vegas CityLife for three years. He founded and edited the Las Vegas Mercury, which ceased publishing after a four-year run. Today, he is the director of community publications for Stephens Media, overseeing editorial operations of numerous weekly newspapers and special sections.
Schumacher, along with blogging on his favorite books, also writes a weekly public affairs column for the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
