UNLV reaches agreement in principle for contract extension with Sanford
UNLV reached an agreement in principle for a three-year contract extension with football coach Mike Sanford, athletic director Mike Hamrick confirmed today.
Hamrick did not reveal other details of the deal because they still are being worked out, and the agreement would have to be approved by the Board of Regents early next year. One athletic department source described a buyout clause, a standard part of a coach's contract, as being a "reasonable" dollar figure.
Sanford has one year left on the current deal, so this essentially gives him a four-year contract. He is coming off his best season. UNLV went 5-7 after winning just two games in each of his first three seasons.
