Henderson police charge two teenagers in slaying

Henderson police late Tuesday arrested two teenagers suspected in the slaying of a 32-year-old man found dead in his home this week.

Jose A. Delatorre, 18, and a 17-year-old boy were charged with murder in the death of Matthew Thomas Cox, who was found dead Monday in his house on the 700 block of Solitude Point Avenue, near Horizon Ridge Parkway and Gibson Road, police said.

The teens beat and choked Cox to death, then stole some household electronics and his car, police said. Cox was a teacher at Henderson's Basic High School, according to Clark County School District sources.

A friend discovered Cox's body Monday afternoon when he showed up to care for Cox's pets. Cox was supposed to be traveling, police said.

Investigators determined the teens knew Cox before killing him. Police did not release the 17-year-old's name because he is a juvenile.
