Now’s your chance to create a superhero
May 1, 2008 - 9:00 pm
It's a superhero summer -- at least at the movies -- with tonight's arrival of "Iron Man" launching an invasion that includes such iconic figures as Batman and the Incredible Hulk . (To say nothing of such two-fisted but all-too-human figures as a globe-trotting archaeologist named Indiana Jones.)
But that's yesterday and today. We're interested in the world of tomorrow -- and the amazing costumed crusaders who'll be there to save the day.
Yes, readers, it's the opportunity you (or at least some of you, we hope) have been anticipating with eager glee: the chance to create your own superhero, complete with intriguing history, astounding powers, catchy crimefighter alias and real-world alter ego. And don't forget the crowning touch: a distinctive, possibly flamboyant costume. (Cape optional, of course.)
The contest is open to all ages.
As for the winning entries, they're scheduled to debut in the Review-Journal's Living section May 25. But perhaps they'll live on, if some sharp-eyed comic book editor's willing to give them a chance to carve their own legends outside the pages of a great metropolitan newspaper.
Entries should include the superhero's name and portrait (in costume, of course), plus descriptions of his or her real-world identity and superpowers. (Extra credit will be given for details regarding such essential ingredients as our hero or heroine's archnemesis, sidekick and assistants, plus secret lair, secret weapons and secret sweetheart.)
All entries must arrive at the Review-Journal by May 15, and will not be returned. Winners and other selected entries will appear in the paper and online.
Mail your creations to My Superhero, Living Department, Las Vegas Review-Journal, P.O. Box 70, Las Vegas, NV 89125. (Don't forget to include your name, address, telephone number and age.) And may the best superhero triumph!
