UNLV tops BYU in baseball with six-run eighth inning
The UNLV baseball team scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday night to beat Brigham Young 10-9 at Wilson Stadium.
Michael Brenly drove in the winning run with a two-out RBI single for the Rebels (13-14, 5-3 Mountain West Conference), who sent 10 batters to the plate in the eighth against the Cougars (13-17, 4-4).
Brenly went 4-for-5 and J.J. Sferra had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for UNLV.
Reliever Troy Watson (1-1) gained the win, and Adam Moser pitched a scoreless ninth to get his third save.
• UNLV WOMEN'S TENNIS -- The 58th-ranked Rebels lost 4-3 to No. 24 Texas Christian at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
UNLV (9-8, 1-2 MWC) got singles victories from Elena Gantcheva, Katy Williams and Sharon Marin against the Horned Frogs (14-4, 4-0).
• CSN BASEBALL -- Spring Valley graduate Jose Barajas got a save and a win against the 18th-ranked Coyotes, who lost 3-1 and 1-0 to Western Nevada College in Carson City.
The College of Southern Nevada (25-18, 14-8 Scenic West Athletic Conference) managed just eight hits in the doubleheader against Western Nevada (21-14, 15-7).
Tyler Lavigne (4-1) and Taylor Cole (7-3) took the losses. Cole pitched eight innings in the second game, giving up one run on five hits.
Barajas (5-1) pitched in relief in both games for the Wildcats.
• CSN SOFTBALL -- The Coyotes (21-15, 16-10 SWAC) were swept 6-5 and 3-2 by the 13th-ranked College of Southern Idaho (34-13, 18-6) in Twin Falls, Idaho.
CSN's Lindsey Headley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the first game, and Michelle Ralston was 3-for-4 in the second game.
