Gibson named to Area Seventy position
Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson has been named an Area Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The announcement that Gibson was called as one of 38 new Area Seventies was made earlier this month during the church's 178th annual General Conference in Salt Lake City.
According to the church, Area Seventies offer part-time, voluntary service to the church within their geographic areas and support area presidents in international areas.
Gibson, 59, will serve as an Area Seventy in the church's North America Southwest Area, which includes Nevada.
Gibson said that, as an Area Seventy, "I am responsible for providing training and support for local leadership."
Gibson, who previously has served as a bishop and stake president here, said his new position likely will involve some travel. But, he added, "I will continue to live at home and work at home, and the responsibility will be largely on weekends." Serving in church positions "is something I've done my entire adult life," Gibson said.
Now, as an Area Seventy, he added, "I'm privileged and humbled by the opportunity to give service and look forward to meeting many people that I don't already know."
