Rhodes partners with local program

Rhodes Homes is helping to sponsor the Henderson Chamber of Commerce's I CAN BE program. The Integrating Career Academies by Networking Business and Education program is designed to help high school students tailor their educational curriculum to better match the career paths they have chosen.

"The I CAN BE program will partner local businesses with students from Clark County high schools through career expos. The businesses will have the opportunity to talk with the students about the skill sets necessary for their chosen career paths," said Glynda Rhodes, a Henderson Chamber board member and an executive at Rhodes Homes. "These students will then be able to take this information and make decisions that will help them to develop their careers and futures."

According to Alice Martz, chief executive officer of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, there are 16 different career clusters and each cluster is populated with three related businesses.

Representatives from 48 businesses will be at the career expos to work with the students and help them with the educational path that best suits their career choice. The first career expo for high school freshman will be held on April 22 at Basic High School.

"We are excited to see how the students will interact with this program," Martz said. "We look at this new venture as a way of growing our future workforce.

"And having sponsors like Rhodes Homes enables the Chamber to grow and develop programs that help to better our community," she said.

According to Rhodes, the builder realizes its social responsibility and is willing to support the programs that enhance the communities where it builds homes.

"As a developer and builder, we have a responsibility to improve the communities in which we build," Rhodes said. "Whether it be investing and volunteering in existing programs or helping to create new ones, we understand that we need make these communities better in any way that we can."
