YOUR WEEKEND: Activities planned at Exploration Park

If you haven’t yet checked out Exploration Park in the far southwest valley, Saturday would be a great time to do so. Located in the Mountain's Edge planned community, the park will host the second annual Country in the Park festival from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

Country in the Park is free and includes live country music, a Native American dance troupe, line dancing and trick roping demonstrations. Also: pony rides, rock climbing on an inflatable mountain, mining for gems, udder relay races, bounce houses and mechanical bull riding.

The Patty Janura Band and the Tony Marques Band are set to perform. In addition, attendees may enjoy Exploration Park's amenities, including grassy spaces, volleyball courts, picnic areas, horseshoe pits and trails leading to Exploration Peak.

A distinctive feature of Exploration Park is its Old West Village, featuring building facades, climbing structures and slides. Children’s areas include covered wagon play structures and a replica water tower splash park.
