Hindu chaplain honored
RENO -- A Hindu chaplain who was heckled by three protesters when he gave the opening prayer in the U.S. Senate was honored by religious and community leaders in Reno.
At a reception Wednesday, Rajan Zed was honored for his efforts to foster acceptance and unity among people of different faiths and beliefs.
Zed, director of interfaith relations at a Reno Hindu temple, became the first Hindu to give the opening prayer in the Senate on July 12.
His historic moment was briefly interrupted by three protesters. Two women and a man shouted "this is an abomination" and other complaints from the visitors' gallery before they were arrested by police.
